One night a few weeks back I was shooting heavily in burst mode, and when I got home to view the images, I noticed two folders on the memory card. I had recently passed 10,000 shots, but hadn't come anywhere close to another 10,000 where it should've switched like that. I formatted the card, but it insists on going back to the 102D7000 folder even though I still have images "left" in 101. Odd stuff.

I’m glad I’m not the only one having this issue. Then I read it doesn't have built-in AF so most of my lenses wouldn't work! Next up is the D7000 which has AF but not swivel screen – FFS!

I’m in a pickle as I was going to get a D5100 as I thought the swivel screen would be great for shooting my toddler without having to bend down or get on my knees. I borrow my Uncle's ikelite housing and it kinda sucks. I guess that's why he hardly ever uses it. But yeah, I have a Nimar housing which works great lol I think my Uncle is jelly.

I have a Nimar house and let me tell you…it’s alot more awesome than Ikelites. From the purchase date in April 2011 until late July 2011 the issue never occurred. I used various modes (U1 U2 & others) without issue. Then in late July I started experiencing the “random folder creation” problem. This puzzled me so for about 2 weeks I experimented with various settings and modes to try to figure out the exact sequence of events to cause it to occur. The change that I believe trigger the problem to occur was that I changed the function of the second memory card from Overflow to Backup in late July. But that alone does not cause the problem to occur. There are also other things that have to occur to “force” the folder creation and even then I couldn’t make it happen every time. But what I could figure out is that using the 2nd memory card as Backup and then also changing the mode dial following a shot would sometimes trigger the folder creation. I also noted that switching the camera “off” then changing the mode dial, then switching the camera back “on” would sometimes trigger a new folder. The other pertinent piece of information is that switching the function of the 2nd memory card from Backup to Overflow makes the “random folder creation” problem go away no matter what I do to the mode dial.

I did not experience the “random folder creation” issue with my D7000 until recently.
